Hatha Yoga

The word hatha comes from the root words ha (sun) and ta (moon). It points to the joining together of opposites. Similarly, the word yoga means β€œto yoke.” Hatha Yoga is the practice of the yogasanas, or postures, in combination with mindful breathing and meditation.

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga is considered to be a preparatory practice. It prepares the body to be limber enough to be able to sit comfortably for long periods of time for contemplation and meditation, and for other seated practices such as kirtan (mantra singing). Yoga is truly about seeing through the veil of separateness, and discovering our unity with all of life.

What is a Hatha Yoga class with Noelle like?

Fun, challenging, exploratory, upbeat, and at the same time deeply relaxing. Each class includes an invigorating yogasana practice (postures) as well as space for meditation & breath work (pranayama). We begin with centering, and then move through a series of warm-up postures, which include a sequence of sun salutations. We then arrive to the core of the class, which is a bit different each time! The classes are well-rounded, designed to leave you feeling that every major muscle group has been stretched and engaged. Each class will also have a special focus, either on a particular area of the body or style of asana to give you a chance to go deeper and, hopefully, learn something new. We close each class with savasana, an asana for rest and integration. Noelle has over 15 years of experience teaching yoga, and she is also a dancer and bodyworker. Her in-depth knowledge of anatomy and alignment informs each class.
