an interdisciplinary place of holistic healing
Craniosacral therapy is a powerful yet gentle hands-on healing modality with its roots in traditional osteopathic medicine. This subtle form of bodywork directly supports the body’s inherent self-healing mechanism. What does that mean? The body is constantly working to heal itself. While you sleep, while you work, while you breathe... CST helps to support the central nervous system and all areas of the body affected by the nervous system - which includes every other system and structure in the body! The craniosacral fluid detoxifies and heals the nervous tissue as it circulates around the brain and the spinal cord. By working with the connective tissue and the natural rhythms of the craniosacral system, and identifying any patterns of inertia found therein, balance gradually gets restored to the whole body. Noelle is trained to work with adults, infants, and children. CST is a great complement to massage therapy or chiropractic care.
What CST is not:
Brain massage. A therapy only focused on the cranium and the sacrum. Reiki. Strictly energy work. Strictly biomechanical (physical) therapy. Only useful for headaches or head injuries (though it can help with these conditions). Make believe! (It looks like he/she/they are doing nothing)…etc. Read on to learn what it IS!
Craniosacral Therapy varies greatly from massage in that there is very little pressure applied to the body and the client remains fully clothed for the session. It is oriented toward correcting imbalances present within the craniosacral system, which is made up of the central nervous system, the cranium, spine, sacrum and the cerebrospinal fluid (the fluid that surrounds and cushions the brain and spinal cord). It also works to relieve tension in the fascia, which is a network of connect tissue that runs through and around nearly every structure of the body. The practitioner is able to detect imbalances present within the body by “listening” with the hands to the subtle fluctuations of the craniosacral system.
There is a subtle rhythm generated by the craniosacral system, and when the body goes through a trauma or endures certain conditions for long enough, it can cause inertia or patterns of stagnancy within the system. This is problematic because when the body stops moving it starts breaking down. The practitioner works to gently free up the system and help it return to optimum functioning by applying very light pressure “in the direction of ease or the direction of effort,” following the directives of the very healing force within the body itself. The result of this unique therapy is profound and lasting relief from nagging, persistent patterns of pain, dysfunction and discomfort, as well as a boosted sense of well-being and, more often than not, an experience of deep relaxation that may continue for hours and days after.
